Kate’s Fish Camp, Gainesville, FL

November 2nd we stayed at Kate’s Fish Camp in Gainesville, FL for one night, which is located on Newnan’s Lake.  This place is not ideal for big rigs. Our 34ft travel trailer was able to be pulled thru into a space, but it had to be backed out which was a bit of an ordeal. The cost for one night is $35 for water & electric only sites.  There is a dump station about 6 miles away at Love’s. The location of the water & electric box is not ideal for our trailer. We were able to choose a site that fit the length of our trailer to make it work.  Tent Camping $20.00 for a tent-site for two, additional campers are $10 ea. Pull Behinds & Motor Homes prices are determined by class and size: Call for Pricing. 30 & 50 amp available. All camping includes anytime outdoor hot and cold shower and a public restroom. There is boat, kayak & canoe rentals on site. Launch Fee $2.00 per vessel, call for group rates & discounts. Half-Day Price (6 hours) – Canoes $20.00, Kayaks $20.00 & Flat Bottom Fishing Boats $20.00 and for whole day $30 for paddle vessels, all rentals come with paddles, life jackets, and safety whistle. There is a walking trail nearby.

Street noise can be heard since we are right off a busy highway but not enough to disturb our sleep.  Other campers are quiet though it was only about half full during our stay.

We met up with Lyndsay, who I nannied while living in the East Bay, California when she was 18 months old.  She is now grown up and is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and working at the University of Florida. She invited us to attend the Fall Festival in Micanopy, FL so we met there for lunch.  She recommended the Thai Food truck for Eim Thai and it was wonderful.  Chad had the Panang Curry and I had 2 chicken kabobs with fried rice, both were delicious and cost $10 each.  I had enough for dinner that night as well. Chad later got a coffee from a local place called Mosswood Farm Store. He also bought a jar of Classic “Sweet before Heat” Salsa from Micanopy Gold.  On our way back to our trailer we stopped at Publix for some groceries.  Prices are a bit high for our liking but we don’t always have the option to find the best deal when we are travelling.
